Parashat Bechukotai
Walk with My Laws and keep My commandments and do them, I will then give you rain the proper season and make the earth yield its produce and its trees bear fruit... Leviticus 26:3
Rabbi Yochanan said: If one learns with the intention of not doing, it would have been better for him had the placenta been placed over his face and he had not come out into the air of this world (Leviticus Rabbah 35:7).
Learning is for the sake of doing. Religious study and practice should lead to us making the world a better place. Otherwise, what is the point?
