Adonai spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai... Numbers 1:1
Some say Torah was given in the wilderness of Sinai rather than anyplace else specifically because it was a wasteland. From this we learn that we can lift ourselves to great spiritual heights even from the lowliest of places.
