Korach
And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all Korach's people, and their possessions. Numbers 16:32
As for Korach and his band, it was not enough that they merely be able to restrain themselves...they fanned the flames of the argument and the earth was simply unable to exist beneath them. Harei Ba-Shamayim
Pirkei Avot 5:17 asks: What is an example of a debate not for the sake of Heaven? They ancient rabbis answer: Each and every one of Korach's band was only in it for their own glory. They had no inkling of fighting for a common good.
