Contemplations on the weekly Torah portion

Parashat Devarim

It is because the Eternal hates us that God brought us out of the land of Egypt... (Deut. 1:27)

I get that life in the wilderness was really, really hard. I love how the ancient Israelites show up in this passage like teenagers convinced God hates them. Been there, done that. Sadly, if I'm honest, not only in my teen years. It is interesting to notice this very human reflex in moments of difficulty...blame someone. So long as we blame others, we continue to wander in the wilderness. Entering the promised land requires taking responsibility for navigating through tough times.
